AFSAAP encourages anyone with an interest in furthering African Studies in Australasia and the Pacific to become a member. Membership includes an annual subscription to the Australasian Review of African Studies, invitations to the annual conference, inclusion of a membership profile on this website (useful for media inquiries), and receipt of our monthly newsletter Habari kwa ufupi, which contains news of events and publications of interest in the field of Australian African Studies.

Membership fees from July 1st 2018 are as follows:

  • Student or Concession Card Holder: AU$70
  • Regular Member: AU$100 (international AU$110)
  • Organisational Member: AU$180  (International AU$200)

You can make payment by EFT or by sending a cheque or money order in the post. Please ensure that you make your membership payment via EFT after contacting the Treasurer ( for AFSAAP’s bank details. Please make cheques and money orders payable to the “African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific”. Foreign currency cheques attract an additional AUD$20 fee to cover bank charges. Electronic funds transfer is accepted by arrangement with the AFSAAP Treasurer (

Each year we also ask members to donate to the Annual Conference Visitors from Africa fund.

AFSAAP is a registered non-profit association and its assets and income are applied solely in furtherance of its constitution, and no portion shall be distributed directly or indirectly to its members except as bona fide compensation for services rendered or expenses incurred on behalf of the organisation.
