26 May Happy Africa Day to AFSAAP Members

Happy Africa Day to AFSAAP Members,
On 25 May 2025, we celebrated Africa Day—a day commemorated by Africans around the world as a reminder of the continent’s enduring aspirations for political, social, and economic liberation. The day marks the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) in 1963.
The African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific (AFSAAP) is a national network of academics, students, consultants, activists, diplomats, artists, community leaders, and others who share a common interest in promoting African Studies across Australasia and the Pacific. Established in 1978, AFSAAP aims to:
- Promote the research and teaching of African Studies in Australia and the Pacific;
- Facilitate contact among scholars and students through conferences, regional meetings, and publications;
- Support the coordination of African Studies programs and the acquisition of African materials by libraries in the region;
- Foster broader public understanding of Africa;
- Serve as the professional body representing Africanist interests to governments and the wider community; and
- Establish and strengthen connections with African universities and scholars, as well as international African Studies associations, to encourage meaningful exchange.
At AFSAAP, we remain committed to advancing African Studies through our annual conference and our flagship journal, the Australian Review of African Studies.
Wishing you all a meaningful and inspiring Africa Day.
Warm regards,
Distinguished Professor Andre M.N. Renzaho, OAM, PhD,
AFSAAP President
