Call for Reviewers

The Australian Journal of African Studies invites academics, researchers and practitioners to join its reviewer community. This journal is grounded in African Studies as an academic discipline and epistemology, centring African ways of knowing and giving Africa agency across all dimensions of research, teaching and learning. We welcome people working across the full range of themes listed below who share a commitment to rigorous, decolonial scholarship and who understand that African Studies is not simply research about Africa, but a distinct intellectual and political tradition.

African Studies is an academic discipline, epistemology and the politics of decolonisation, not simply any research about Africa
  2. Does the paper address issues of importance? Does it have an argument?
  3. African Studies pedagogical and research approaches present in the research and manuscript
  4. Importance and originality of the manuscript and its contribution of new knowledge
  5. Soundness of methodology and adequacy of data
  6. Does the analysis take a critical approach and consider different angles of the argument?
  7. Language and style. Is the presentation of the paper reasonable in terms of grammar and language generally?
  8. Organisation and logical development
  9. Evidence supports conclusions and implications
  10. Adequacy of literature cited and acceptable reference list, including adequate use of African literature
